How a Notice Board in Mzuzu Inspired the Creation of An App called Teachers Hub

Some years ago, during a visit to the DEM office in Mzuzu, Malawi, I noticed a notice board covered with dozens of handwritten papers pinned up by teachers seeking divisional and cross-divisional transfers.

Each note represented a teacher hoping that someone interested in moving in the opposite direction would eventually see their message and initiate a swap. As I stood there, I found myself wondering: How often do these messages actually reach the right person?

Over time, I also observed that many teachers were turning to WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms to search for transfer opportunities. While these platforms expanded the search, the process remained time-consuming, fragmented, and often frustrating.

I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had seen.

The thoughts eventually inspired me to develop Teachers Hub, a digital platform designed to solve real challenges faced by teachers by making professional collaboration and administrative tasks simpler, faster, and smarter.

The platform currently offers:

Smart Teacher Transfer Exchange – helping teachers identify compatible divisional and cross-divisional transfer partners through an intelligent matching system.

Instant Schemes of Work and Lesson Plan Generation – enabling teachers to create curriculum-aligned documents in minutes rather than spending entire weekends preparing them manually.

I believe that some of the best innovations emerge from observing everyday challenges and asking a simple question: How can we do this better?

What began as a moment of curiosity in front of a notice board has evolved into an effort to make teaching more collaborative, efficient, and less stressful for educators.

I look forward to continuing to build solutions that empower teachers and strengthen education through technology.
