I am excited to introduce Nkhuku Manager, a mobile application born from my own journey as a poultry farmer.
Over the years, I have experienced both the joys and the heartbreaks that come with poultry farming. I’ve celebrated successful flocks and watched healthy birds grow into profitable businesses. But I’ve also experienced painful losses that taught me lessons no book could.
One of the hardest moments was losing more than one hundred chickens to Newcastle disease. On another occasion, I lost around seventy three-week-old chickens after carbon monoxide from a mbaula (a charcoal burner) built up inside the chicken house. The burner had been placed there to provide warmth during cold weather, but instead it became a silent danger. That experience was heartbreaking and served as a painful reminder that even well-intentioned practices can have devastating consequences if proper ventilation is overlooked.
Those experiences made me realize that many poultry farmers face similar challenges every day. Sometimes it’s disease, sometimes it’s an environmental hazard, and sometimes it’s a simple oversight that ends up costing months of hard work and investment. This inspired me to create Nkhuku Manager.
My vision is simple that I should use technology to help poultry farmers stay organized, make better decisions, and reduce avoidable losses. I wanted to build a practical tool that understands the realities of poultry farming because it was designed by someone who has lived those realities.
Nkhuku Manager is represents the lessons I have learned, the challenges I have overcome, and my hope that other farmers can benefit from those experiences.
This is only the beginning. I am committed to continually improving Nkhuku Manager by listening to farmers, and developing solutions that make poultry farming smarter, safer, and more profitable.
