Almost everywhere in Malawi a week would not pass without seeing women gathering somewhere with a common goal of ensuring that their families are safe financially. They call the groups village banks. Others call them Banki M’khonde. If you ask any member of these groups about their benefits, one would usually tell you, that the existence of these village savings and credit groups have enabled her to pay school fees for her children, build a house for her family etc. The list is just endless.
One of the crucial element in these groups is calculation of the money. If the calculations go wrong usually trust among the members declines.

To ensure that these calculations are done smoothly my students thought of creating an android calculator app that should solve all the mathematical problems that the members can come across.
The app can calculate
- Monthly or weekly savings
- Money to be shared to each and every member at the end of a saving period
- Loan interest
- Total loan amount to be repaid.
