A number of mobile applications have been developed to ensure that learning process is improved. Unfortunately, most of these apps focus more on secondary and tertiary education. One will agree with me that these days mobile technology knows no age. Primary school kids too own mobile phones. If they don’t own them then they spend a good amount of time with their parents’ phones. Unfortunately, most of the apps on these kids’ phones are not that relevant. Most kids like playing games on the phones and sometimes send messages on WhatsApp. I was shocked one day when I saw my kid, while at six, was busy on WhatsApp sending voice notes to her cousin who lives some miles away. I was like ‘who taught you how to do this?’ It looked like this kid had found a friend in the phone.
Phones are good and can help solve the problem of scarcity of teaching and learning resources. Some months ago someone encouraged me to come up with an app that should contain notes for primary school. He was worried that books were not enough and this was having a negative impact on his work as a teacher. I welcomed his idea. Therefore, after some months of coding, the app was made.
This app can be used by teachers and even pupils. I would be happy to see pupils using it. They are in the right stage to start taking studies seriously. They do not have to wait until they go to secondary school to do that. At this stage the brain is so anxious to help them learn new things. Let them seize the opportunity. Let them make hay while the sun shines. In Latin they say carpe diem.
